Overview: Precision Line Leak Detection
Tanknology
Canada's precision line leak testing technology is Underwriter's Laboratories
of Canada (ULC) approved. This third party approval indicates that the
technology is capable of level one leak detection. The system is used
to test product delivery lines associated with storage tank systems.
When administered by Tanknology's trained technicians it is the most
effective way to detect even very small leaks. The system is based on
the simple principle that liquid fuel does not compress when placed
under pressure. The line is pressurized with product. If the line is
leaking the testing apparatus measures the amount of liquid which exits
the line through a leak and is timed to determine a leak rate.

The
testing apparatus is attached to the line at the union underneath the
pump. The line is then overfilled into the tester and a pressure of
one and one half times the operating pressure of the line is applied.
The level of liquid is noted in the graduated cylinder of the testing
apparatus. Liquid level readings are then observed at ten minute intervals.
This allows the technician to calculate a leak rate in litres per hour.
